BC NDP MLAs endorse Nathan Cullen for leader
Vancouver--Four British Columbia MLAs today endorsed four-term BC MP Nathan Cullen to lead the federal party.
Cullen is in his home province, touring the Lower Mainland, Vancouver Island and the Kootenays.
"One of the things I like best about British Columbia is it's so far away from Ottawa. And people are open to new ideas and new politics," said Cullen. "It's a privilege to have the support of these leading British Columbians, whom I've long respected and worked with well.
"New Democrats are proud of the historic steps we've taken together, and are ready for the next one. We can form a progressive government that reflects this country's values."
The MLAs are:
Robin Austin, Skeena:
The truly outstanding attribute that Nathan brings to this role is his ability to communicate with people in such a way that he not only de-mystifies politics, but enables all who hear him to connect their own wishes, dreams and values to what is possible in this great country. That is a rare skill indeed, and my wish is that all of us as New Democrats find a way to put that to the best possible use."
Gary Coons, North Coast:
"I am supporting Nathan because he understands the challenges this country faces and is capable of delivering on his commitment for a progressive government. Nathan is a tireless community advocate, has represented his constituents well and has inspired young people to get involved in politics to help build a better Canada. Nathan has the qualities of a great leader and the ability to move us towards a more united and prosperous Canada. Building for success in the next election requires someone who is inspirational and has the energy our Party needs. Nathan is that person and I am proud to support him."
Doug Donaldson, Stikine:
"Nathan demonstrates the skills and talent to draw people together from diverse backgrounds and perspectives to unite towards common goals. That requires the ability to motivate and inspire which are hallmarks of adept leadership."
Norm Macdonald, Columbia River – Revelstoke:
"Nathan Cullen is one of Canada’s most exciting and inspiring political talents. His progressive views are firmly grounded in the politics of rural British Columbia where common sense and hard work are highly valued. He wins hearts and minds. I am proud to back Nathan and know he has the talent and vision to lead our party."
